The goal of the Development Center and the Building Inspections Division is to provide an efficient and clear development review process by coordinating and tracking projects using professional and courteous customer service so that Columbia may grow and prosper while maintaining a high quality of life for all. The information provided on this website under “Permitting” is divided into two sections: residential and commercial.
- Permits may be applied for online via the Access Portal or via email to [email protected]. Payments for permits should be made online via the Access Portal (see instructions) or may be made in person. New to the portal and need to sign up? Learn how to register here. - Visit the Residential section if you are working on a one or two family project.
- Visit the Commercial section if you are working on a commercial or multi-family project.
- Information that applies to all projects can be found under General Information.
- Information on land development reviews can be found in the Boards and Commissions section. This includes rezoning and site plan review information as well as applications for zoning variances and special exceptions.
NOTE: If the permit you need isn’t an option in the online Portal, or should you experience a technical difficulty using the Portal, all permits may be submitted via email to the Development Center; please note that the limit on total email size is 20MB.
